National Directorate of Employment, NDE in Nasarawa State has trained and graduated 50 women on beads stringing in the state.
State NDE coordinator, Alhaji Idris Wase who disclosed this at the graduation ceremony of the beneficiaries on Wednesday in Lafia, the state capital, noted that the gesture was meant to empower the women with useful skills that would make them self reliant.
He explained that the directorate came into existence in 1986, with the mandate of training people especially the youths and women in different skills acquisition programmes in the country in order to make them self reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.
“Beads stringing is very vital, as we can see, these women use the beads to make slippers, sandals, bags, bangles, ear-rings, purse, table mats, belts, key holders, flower vase, necklaces among others,” Wase said.
In a remark at the occassion, Mr. Nicolas Abari, Permanent Secretary of Nasarawa state ministry of women Affairs commended the NDE for its untiring efforts in initiating programmes aimed at fighting unemployment and poverty in the state.
Abari who was represented by Mrs. Matayashi Adako, a Director in the ministry urged the trainees to use the knowledge gained to train others to become self reliant.
Rabiat Kayyimu, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked NDE for the initiative and promised to use the knowledge gained effectively to contribute their quota to national development.
