Niger Delta youths under the aegis of Bridge Builders of Niger Delta, BOND, have called on the President-elect, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari to fulfill his campaign promises. They stated this in Abuja during their inaugural press briefing.
Speaking during the occasion, a chieftain of the group, Ambassador Dibi Yankore said the group made up of development activists, ex agitators and youth leaders of the Niger Delta are driven by the desire to realise the goal of the socio-political and economic growth and development of the Niger-Delta region.
While commending President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, Amb. Yankore said Nigerian people are expectant and indeed hopeful that he fulfils his electoral promises.
“Buhari won the election on the back of his promises to end corruption, overcome the insecurity that plagues large parts of the country, create jobs for the teeming youth population, improve the economy and improve infrastructure.”
While expressing the group’s willingness to work with the President- elect, he said they hoped in the ability of General Buhari to provide lasting solutions to the challenges of the Niger-Delta.
“We express hope that he will fulfill his campaign promises and in so doing, ensure the socio-political and economic growth and development of the region. As a result of these challenges, the Niger-Delta has seen a massive rise in militancy, criminal activity, kidnapping, destruction of government assets and other such nefarious activities in the last decade.
Speaking further, the convener, Prince Ntui Ogar said BOND was established as a platform to properly articulate the challenges, hopes and aspirations of the Niger Delta region to General Buhari.
He pledged the support of the group as a medium to aid the incoming administration to bring an end to militancy, kidnapping, destruction of public facilities, and other such societal vices that have hitherto plagued the region.
