Bayelsa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said it had recovered a total of 98.756.6 kilogrammes of drugs between January and June this year.
Barr Josephine Ruth Obi while addressing reporters in commemoration of United Nations’ International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Monday, in Yenagoa, decried the rate of consumption of illicit drugs in the state as alarming.
She observed that all the drugs found in the state were for consumption, since this is not a producer or a transit state.
According to her, the cocaine weighed 55.6grammes, heroin 4.3grammes, cannabis 97.233.5kilogrammes, while psychotropic substances weighed 1.463.2kilogrammes.
Emphasising this year’s theme, ‘Let’s develop our lives, our communities, identities without drugs,’ Barr Obi said the twin menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking had become enormous monster all around the world, destroying precious lives and societies.
