Federal government through its agency, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has donated 15 trucks loaded with relief materials to about 69 communities which were victims of cattle rustlers and armed bandits’ incessant attacks in Zamfara central senatorial district.
The director -general of the agency, Alhaji Sani Sidi,who presented the donation to victims in Yandoton-Daji district in Tsafe local government, informed that the donation was provided to the victims with a view to reducing the hardship inflicted on them by the rustlers.
The DG, who was represented by the acting-coordinator of the NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, Mr Thickman Tanimu, said the benefiting communities were from Maru, Bungudu and Tsafe local government areas.
’’NEMA in collaboration with Senator Kabiru Marafa of Zamfara central senatorial district constituency office have conducted survey on the damage of the attacks in the affected communities. We have submitted our finding to the federal government where it provided these relief materials for the victims,’’ he said.
He said the relief materials comprised of food items, building and house hold materials, clothes, toiletries and cosmetics, stressing that 11 out of the 15 trucks of the materials had arrived the state while the remaining four were on the way.
In the same vein, Senator Marafa, represented by Alhaji Abubakar Docta during the formal handing over of the donation commended the federal government for the gesture and described it as timely, considering economic stagnation challenges faced by the victims.
Sen. Marafa said he donated food items, cash and clothing materials worth N57 million to the people in his constituency as annual Ramada feeding.
Marafa assured NEMA that all the items would be distributed to the affected communities and called on beneficiaries to be patient as federal government was intensifying efforts on effective security in the areas.
