Elections: NCWS decries poor emergence of women

Newly posted Abia state Commissioner of police, Mr. Etim Ene Okon has charged police men from his command on professionalism ahead of 2019 general elections.

Abia CP gave this charge today during the official handover ceremony held at Police Officers Mess Umuahia.

He noted that the immediate past CP, Chris Okey Ezike, now promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police, left a very outstanding achievement for him to emulate.

He noted that he is coming on board at a very challenging time, barely four days to the crucial Presidential/National Assembly elections, noting that his focus now will be for the forthcoming election after which he will sit back and see how to move the command forward.

He however called on his officers to brace up for the challenges ahead especially since the elections are around the corner.

Abia CP noted with nostalgia how in 1987, the outgoing CP, as the then Police Public relations Officer (PPRO) of Cross River command, issued him engagement form into the Nigerian Police force.

He expressed delight that he is today taking over from a boss who played a major role when he wanted to join the Police force, adding that ever since he has been following his achievements and career progression.

Okon described the new AIG as a perfect Police man who has the knack of making a mark anywhere he is posted.

The new CP admitted that the former CP has left a very big shoe that he is afraid to wear but promised to do his possible best.

Earlier in his valedictory speech, the outgoing CP commended his command and Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu for giving him the cooperation to succeed.

He declared that he is posted to Zone 4 Markudi while urging Abia state Governor to give his successor the needed logistics to succeed tasking the command to be professional as the nation enters critical period of 2019 election.

He further noted that 2019 is very important to Nigeria and international community while harping on the need for police and INEC, as critical stakeholders, to join hands and ensured the conduct of free, fair and credible election.

AIG Ezike took a stock of his modest achievements which includes inaugurating the anti kidnapping and cultism units; centralize traffic in the metropolis, in addition to re awaken the service zeal of DPOs to know that they are IGP in their respective zones of the command under his watch.
