Royal Traditional Council in Ile-Ife, Osun State yesterday declared Giesi Ruling House as the next to produce the new Ooni of Ife in 40 days time after some processes.
According to Obalufe of Iremo Quarters, Oba Folorunso Omisakin who spoke on behalf of other king makers during a press conference yesterday at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, the 16 traditional rulers making up the kingmakers by Ife traditional rules and customs confirmed that 1980 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration empowers Giesi ruling house to produce another Ooni of Ife after the transition of Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse 11.
“Section 19 subsections (3) states that it is the turn of Giesi ruling house to present a candidate /candidates for the vacant stool of Ooni of Ife chieftaincy”, the kingmakers stated.
The kingmakers who enjoined the remaining three ruling houses in the town, Osinkola, Ogboru and Lafogido, to wait for their turns also advised the entire residents of Ile-Ife to maintain absolute peace.
The kingmakers however assured the general public of their faithfulness to also abide with due process and rules of law during the selection process.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretaries of Ife Central and Ife East local government areas of the state, Alhaji Tajudeen Olaniyi Lawal and Dr. Taiwo Olaiya said, on their side as government, they would write the affected ruling houses inviting them for an official meeting which would also guide them in selecting their candidate or candidates of their choice.
