Newly inaugurated Postmaster General, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi has urged stakeholders and Nigerian to fast track the passing of postal bills and its implementation to aid federal government’s effort of marketing Postal Services in all ramification in all the nook and crannies in the country.
Adegbuyi who made the call when the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, was at the post office to inaugurate the New PMG at the weekend in Abuja, also seek the cooperation of the staff to improve Nigerian postal services.
The Minister of communication Bar. Adebayo Shittu said, “This is a moment we have been waiting for. We have, in the last seven months, told the world the new direction we intend to chart towards re-awakening NIPOST- (which I call the sleeping giant) -and re-position it not just to become one of the elite parastatals of government but a world class business conglomerate of all time”.
There is no iota of doubt that this agency has immense potential to contribute substantially not only towards our revenue generation but the overall revival and perpetual sustainability of the Nigerian economy.
“We know that a reformed and commercialised NIPOST can play a key role in helping our Government of change to achieve its cardinal objectives”.
These include service delivery, both government to citizens’ services and citizen to citizens services through the adoption of cutting edge technology as well as financial inclusion services to alleviate poverty, create wealth and substantially generate employment for our teeming youth nationwide.
“You are stepping into an office that requires a lot of work to meet up with the reform promises we have made to Nigerians”.
He also emphasised that the assignment requires deep thinking, radical ideas and team work to attain a rapid turn-around and give us a modern, responsive and efficient NIPOST that will be a pride not only to our dear President but the entire Nigeria citizenry”.
The Minister, urging the postmaster general to bring into fore a more re-vitalised and effective and digitalised establishment, that will provide an efficient system for investors and opportunities, adding that when the system is transformed, more job opportunities for the teeming population.
The minister said though there are many competitors in the couriers business, the institution should come up with best strategies to be the best.
He said the image of the organisation need to be branded in new form, and meet up with the current development.
He advice the management to consider ways of eliminating loopholes in the system and provide an efficient postal service at an affordable rate.
The minister urged the organisation to create opportunities to engage in e commerce, and learn from the new online companies on how to improve the revenue of the postal services.
