Residents of 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo, Enugu, Enugu State, now have a cause to jubilate as the gully erosion that had sacked many a residents has now been controlled.

The head of communication, Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, Enugu, Mr. Ben Agbo, told news men during an inspection tour of the erosion sites that the organisation has achieved a lot of success in controlling the erosion.

“We have been able to control the deadly gully erosion at 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo, where all the residents of the area had packed out of their homes. They did not have any hope of coming back to their ancestral homes again but now they are back.

“Soil degredation at Ajali water works, (twin tank) that supply water to the whole Enugu metropolis has also been controlled to ensure steady water supply,” Agbo said.

He commended Gov. Ugwuanyi who he said is the man behind the success of the project in the state, adding that NEWMAP is moving from 9th Mile site to another site which has been approved by the World Bank as the State pays their counterpart fund.

Agbo pointed out that apart from controlling erosion at 9th mile corner and Nsude water works soil degradation, Ugwuanyi has awarded contracts worth N30million to all the 17 Local Government Areas in the state to provide infrastruture depending on the need of the council area.

He also pointed out that Ugwuanyi had done so much to put smiles in the face of Enugu indigens by providing all the social amenities needed to make life better.

The NEWMAP spokesman also commended Gov. Ugwuanyi as a man that knows the importance of good environment especially for appointing Mrs. Amaka Anajemba, as the Managing Director of ESWAMA to ensure healthy environmental cleanliness of the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi empowered the agency both financially, humanly and equipment that would help them keep the city clean.

GOV Ugwuanyi, said he has intervened to save the environmental degradation and poor infrastruture in the state to ensure conducive living environment to the people in all the 17 Local Government Area of the State.
