Foremost and experienced sports journalist and former media officer of the Super Eagles under Coach Stephen Keshi, Mr. Ben Alaiya, has been appointed as the new Director of Public Communications of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
In a press statement issued and signed in Abuja by Chief Effiong Johnson, the Chairman of Chairmen of the Ambassador Chris Giwa-led NFF, he explained that the new organogram of a more efficient and very effective but professional structure where the media is not only respected, but given its rightful place has led to the new nomenclature and order.
Effiong explained that in the new dispensation, Alaiya would head the public communications department, which will variously have four units with an assistant director in charge of Television, Print, Radio and neo-media.
Apart from this, we do not wish to have the media sit under the tree and be treated like second-class citizens in the administration of the game again. Hence, the media will have a fully equipped and well-furnished media centre with facilities to help them to do their jobs well.
The media are partners in the delivery of the new plan to develop football in the nation and as such we have carefully tken our time to make the choice of a leader who will help deliver the task and well too.
Dr Robinson Okosun who was initially appointed to head the media in the interim when we got the court order on the April 8 will head a full-fledged Psychology Unit under the Technical Department.
“Ambassador Chris Giwa has already sent a personal message of congratulations to Alaiya and Dr. Okosun who are the first appointees of the new dispensation of Nigerian football. Other appointments will follow suit,” said Johnson.
