The National President, National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE-A, Israel Akpodoro, has commended the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff, General Yusuf Buratai and the entire Nigerian Armed Forces.
Pointedly, the Operations Delta Safe and Crocodile Smile both of which he said have demystified the “boastful and hedonistic Niger Delta Avengers, NDA” in the Niger Delta region noting that were it not for the doggedness of the joint armed forces operations, NDA was ready to run the nation aground.
Akpodoro who stated this in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital yesterday, noted that Nigerian troops were able to record success due mainly to the fact that it was under a goal oriented leadership which believes in professionalism with the needed political will to tackle Nigeria’s enemies headon.
The same Armed Forces he said successfully destroyed the stranglehold of the “once dreaded Boko Haram” in the North East a development he stated was impossible under previous administration owing to corruption and dearth of political will on the part of the nation’s leadership at the time.
According to the Urhobo-born ex-agitator, General Buratai’s success in both the north east and in the creeks of the Niger Delta remains an indictment on the leadership of the past security apparatus adding that since the appointment of Buratai and subsequent setting up of the Command Centre in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, it has been from one success story to another saying; “Unlike the era when Nigerians woke to the news of insurgents overwhelming army. It was either our military hardwares were surrendered to the insurgents or our soldiers in large numbers were killed in several ambushes.”
The Avengers according to the Coalition is fast becoming a history as the armed forces with the instrumentalities of Operation Crocodile Smile are achieving enornous result stressing that the mop up of arms in the region should be done quickly and with the support of the youth in the region whom he said were armed with information about the armouries of the criminals in both the creeks and upland.
With intelligence and due consultation with the youth in the region, the Coalition said the military would achieve result in the mop up exercise.
He expressed regret at the covert support and sympathy of those he described as disgruntled politicians in the region for members of the ‘destructive avengers’ who he noted had nothing to avenge other than poor management of their failure at the 2015 general elections particularly at the centre.
“For us in the Coalition, we give kudos to General Buratai for his doggedness and show of professionalism in his handling of the crisis occasioned by the then rampaging Niger Delta Avengers. The most dangerous thing a nation can do is to allow terrorism like the Avengers exhibited to take root. If its allowed to take root, it will flourish and our troops have uprooted that ill conceived group from our creeks. The rascality of the Avengers have been cut short by this regime of goal oriented leadership. We salute their courage and we wish them more grease to their elbow.” Akpodoro stated.
