Niger East Peoples Forum has accused the Niger State Head of Service, HoS, Alhaji Mohammed Maude Lapai, of unfair and unjust treatment of the senatorial zone in the ongoing public service reform in the state.
The chairman of the forum, Barrister George S. Koce made the position of the zone known in a press briefing yesterday in Minna, saying that the recent development in the redeployment of permanent secretaries was unfair, unjust and smacks of brazen impunity which will not do good to anyone.
Koce said the redistribution of permanent secretaries favoured Niger North and South against the Niger East Senatorial District that has nine local government areas while the other two have eight local governments each.
He stated that out of the twenty-five (25) permanent secretaries retained, only four emerged from the zone against six permanent secretaries in just one local government in Niger South, adding that it was a deliberate agenda to isolate the Niger East Senatorial District from the Niger State All Progressive Congress, APC, led administration.
The forum called for the reversal of the lopsided rationalisation and asked for fair and just treatment, considering one permanent secretary per local government area announced by the HoS in his recent press conference held in his office.
He further urged the Niger State House of Assembly to, as a matter of utmost consideration, address the imbalance observed to safeguard future occurrence while subsequent appointments and deployments should be much more rationally considered.
He charged that those permanent secretaries who had served for 8 years to retire in accordance with the Niger State Civil Service rule just as he explained that the recent reform has shown that some of them who have served more than 8 years were retained while those eligible, demoted and redeployed, describing such as unfair and unjust treatment.
Consequently, the distribution of permanent secretaries before the reform was Niger South had 26, Niger East had 17 and Niger North had 11 but with the distribution after the reform Niger South has 14, Niger East has 4 while Niger North has 7 respectively.
