Wife of the Niger State Governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, has called on women in the state to undergo regular check-up, so as to curtail the menace of breast cancer.
She made the call yesterday at an awareness campaign organised by the Fifth Chukker Breast Cancer A‎wareness campaign in Minna.
She ‎expressed optimism that ‘the type of cancer experienced in the country is preventable and every woman needs to do regular check-up to ascertain whether she has breast cancer‎ or not.”
Amina assured that the awareness will cut across every part of the state.
Accordingly, “What we are trying to do is to ensure that every ward in Niger State has at least one family health care centre that will be able to provide 24 hours service for preventive and therapeutic measures. We are embarking on a free breast cancer screening across the state‎. All we need to do is to increase the capacity of family healthcare workers in the state.’’
She advised that since the cost of cancer treatment is astronomical, women should embrace preventive measures.
She advised women to carry out self examination two days before or two days after their menstruation period‎.
