No fewer than four persons were killed in a reprisal attack by Fulani herdsmen in Kwanan Mariga, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State during the weekend.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident, noted that this was sparked by the killing of a herder by three youths on the rumour that he was part of those who killed three vigilantes from the community about two months ago.
Consequently, the three youths were said to have accosted the herder in front of a shop at the weekend and killed him.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Bala Elkana said that some of the herders who were around quickly retreated to their settlement and moblised for a reprisal, which resulted in the killing of four persons.
Elkana also confirmed that four persons sustained injuries in the attack but investigation revealed that seven people were injured.
Apparently, the three youths who allegedly killed the herder, which resulted in the reprisal were arrested by the police, who said men of the command were on the trail of the fleeing herders.
The spokesman said those who were injured in the attack were receiving treatment at the Kagara General Hospital.
