Niger State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has congratulated Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello on his successful inauguration as the state governor.
The party in a statement signed by the state secretary, Alhaji Aminu Yusuf on Sunday, wished the new governor success in piloting the affairs of the state in the next four years.
Aminu described the smooth transition from PDP administration led by former Governor
Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu to the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a big leap for democracy.
The PDP said that the party was in power for 16 years, during which the state witnessed tremendous progress in all aspects of human development, emphasising that the PDP would remain committed to the wellbeing and stability of the state.
While hailing former Governor Aliyu for seeing through the first transition of instrument of power from one political party to another in the history of the state, PDP urged the new helmsman to consolidate on the gains of the immediate past administration especially in the area of maintenance of law and order in the state.
The party made specific reference to the attempts by some hoodlums to orchestrate mayhem at the venue of last Friday’s inauguration of Governor Bello, a situation that raised concerns that the atmosphere of peace and tranquility that was nurtured and sustained by the immediate past PDP administration in the state was being threatened.
It recalled that in 2012, some disgruntled politicians imported some misfits into the state to cause mayhem under the guise of fuel subsidy protest, and urged the APC government to be vigilant and pay attention to the issue of peace and security for which the state has earned an enviable place in the nation’s history.
The party restated its commitment to a continuous enlightenment of its members and supporters to eschew violence at all times, urging other parties to follow suit.
“We consider election and change of government as a celebration of democracy and not a do-or-die affair. Whether or not one agrees with the message or manifesto of any party, engaging in violence negates the very essence of democracy and should be condemned by all,” the party said.
