Niger State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has filed a suit against the state stopping the Governor from constituting local government Transition Implementation Committee, TIC, and directing Governor Bello to provide all necessary logistics for the January 16 council election.
The party made its stand known at its secretariat yesterday in Minna, saying that the suit also aims at directing the State INEC to hold the election as presently scheduled.
Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tanko Beji, made the disclosure while addressing the party stakeholders, including all the 25 local government chairmanship candidates and their vice as well the 274 councillorship aspirants of the party in the state.
Beji stated that the postponement will afford the party the opportunity to embark on vigorous campaign and urged its members and supporters not be deterred by taking advantage of the postponement.
The state PDP Chairman, Hon Musa Maali, who expressed dismay over the postponement despite the assurance from INEC that the November 7th date was sacrosanct.
Maali intimated that the meeting was basically to inform their members on the activities of the state INEC towards the political parties in the state just as he urged them to be calm and be law abiding citizens.
He further reassured the party supporters that, with determination and sacrifice, the party will surely come out victorious in all the 25 local government chairmanship and councillorship elections as scheduled.
The state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello in an interview stated that the postponement was due to shortage of logistics on the part of the Commission and assured to meet with them in due course so as to actualize the reschedule date by providing all the necessary support to that effect.
