The Muslim Community of Oyo state (MUSCOYS) on Thursday called for a positive change that would engender a prosperous Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement issued in Ibadan by Secretary-General of MUSCOYS, Alhaji Mursiq Siyanbade.
It harped on the culture of prudence, diligence, honesty, decency, transparency and accountability in the polity as the country attained 55 years of nationhood.
The group said that Nigeria’s journey to prosperity could only be achieved if the leadership and followership imbibe the spirit of accountability and sacrifice.
The statement urged those who have lost hope in Nigeria to renew their faith in the country, the new leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and be recommitted to the transformation of the country.
“55 years ago, Nigeria broke free from the shackles of British colonialism with a lot of hope and excitement associated with such freedom.
“It has been 55 years of mixed feelings, of successes and failures, of tragedy and comedy, of good and bad, yet the nation remains one indivisible in spite of the past.
“From the long years of military rule, to the civil war crisis and the failure of past leaders to fix the country, as well as lack of true internal democracy within the political class.
“Corruption and non-patriotic nature of the citizenry, was some of the reasons for the decadence in the last 55 years,’’ MUSCOYS said.
The statement said that Nigeria today should be better than yesterday so as to give hope to those who had lost confidence in the project called “Nigeria’’.
The group prayed to God to allow Nigerians witness more independence anniversary on the surface of the earth and let the country grow from strength to strength. (NAN)
