Nigeria Archery Federation targets international championship

President of Nigeria Archery Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi, who also doubles as the Deputy Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee is optimistic that very soon Nigeria will compete favourable with countries from Europe, America and even Africa in international championships.

Abdullahi based his optimism on the skillful and quality athletes discovered during the recently concluded National Archery Game Clinic for beginners and train the trainer’s workshop in Abuja.

The workshop which is a follow-up of the first phase held in March in Abuja was aimed at equipping Nigeria Archers with the proper rudiments of the game as obtained globally, adding that with the quality of talents that abounds in the country. Nigeria is not supposed to be found wanting when it comes to the game of Archery.

“We are a country blessed with numerous talents hence we must not be lacking in any sport not even Archery”.

“That is why the Federation has taken it as a challenge to organise an all-inclusive workshop where all the stakeholders are being captured.

“Though so many countries in both Europe and America and even Africa have already gone far in the sport, we are not deterred in any way knowing that we must catch up with them and may even surpass them at the rate at which we are moving.

” I want Nigerians to give us a little time having known that the game just found its way to the country and I want to assure Nigerians that the Federation under my leadership is determined to lay a Solid foundation for the sports in Nigeria.”

Over 200 Archers drawn from various states of the Federation participated in the second phase of the 2019 National Archery workshop

which ended May 4 at the package ‘B’ Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja.

States that participated in the workshop include Delta, Plateau, Niger, kogi, Benue, Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, Imo, Kano, Nasarawa, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja among others.

Other participants are the Defence Headquarters, the Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Immigration Service while the Director of Academy EFCC, David Tukura-EFCC and Olatunji Boluji, are among the resource persons.

Meanwhile, the chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has made the Nigeria Archery Federation an official patron of the organization.

According to EFCC, NAF can use their arrow to shoot down corruption in the country.

‘’ As an ambassador of EFCC, NAF has been given the right investigate and arrest any corrupt individuals in the country,’’ EFCC said.

Abdullahi however called on corporate organization to sponsor archery with the aim of taking the game to the next level.
