Nigeria has announced its intention to host the 2023 African Games.
Minister of Youth and Sports and development, Barr Solomon Dalung made this known at the Africa Union conference on sports, culture and youth development which took place in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital city.
Nigerian Pilot Sports learnt that Barrister Dalung told the gathering of Africa ministers of Sports that Nigeria is ever ready to host its brothers and sisters if given the opportunity again.
The entire sports and youths ministers across the continent who attended the conference all expressed confidence in the ability of Nigeria to host the competition previously known as All Africa games come 2023.
The last time Nigeria hosted the Africa Games was in 2003 COJA which Team Nigeria won in the nation’s capital city of Abuja.
The Minster informed his colleagues that Nigeria now has more than three cities for the games.
Nigeria could make history as the first nation to host the Games three times; have not staged the games in Lagos 1973 and Abuja 2003. Only Nigeria and Algeria have staged the games twice. The north Africa country of Algeria played host to the continent sporting event in 1978 and 2007.
Nigeria is in the race alongside Ghana and Burkina Faso to stage the continent biggest sporting festival in 2023.
Nigeria, Ghana and Burkina Faso who for now have indicated the interest to host the continent best of sporting events must submit their bid on or before 31st July 2017.
