Soon, Nigerians will reap the dividends of democracy as promised by the All Progressives Congress, APC, led-federal government, according to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
The Speaker said this will begin to manifest when the 2016 budget is passed into law, stating that the proposals therein are such that will ensure transformation and strategic economic development.
A statement signed by the special adviser on media and public affairs to the speaker said, even as Dogara urged Nigerians to exercise more patience with the APC-led government to fulfill its campaign promises.
The speaker stated that Buhari was facing enormous challenges but was determined to surmount them.
“Nigeria is passing through difficult times and the citizens need to show more understanding and patience as damages done to the country will take time to fix. The 2016 budget will soon be presented by the president and the appropriation bill will contain promises for the masses,’’ he said.
He noted that the last six months could not be used to judge the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, saying the administration inherited empty treasury and a battered nation.
Dogara said Nigerians should criticise the government if after the passage of the 2016 budget, it failed to deliver.
“We cannot afford to disappoint you and the mandate you gave us. Give us and the President maximum support and we shall not disappoint you. Change is a gradual process; with patience, we will bring the desired change and development you clamour for,’’ Dogara said.
