A non-governmental group, Hope Arewa Development Initiative, HADI, has maintained that no administration will ruin the programme initiated by a former Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Shamsudeen Dosunmu.
In a statement issued in Kaduna, recently, the group stated that the present leadership at NIMASA is determined to sustain the programme as it concerns funding and other sundry expenses, despite the economic situation the country is facing now.
“As far as we are concerned, the Haruna Baba-led team can never and will never stop funding this programme, it is a programme that 15 state governments have keyed into. Moreover, there is nobody in this country that does not know the financial position of Nigeria”.
However, the group made it clear that the efforts of those they described as ‘busy bodies’ who want to drag the ‘sweet’ of the new management to the mud will be in vain.
“Be that as it may, the allegation by these busy bodies holds no water and it is a sheer mischief and an attempt to rubbish the reforms that the new management of NIMASA is pursuing. This faceless group also alleged that the current management was frustrating the take-off of the school and that the acting DG wants to relocate the institution.”
They maintained that politicising the Nigeria Maritime University shows the level of their understanding of how tertiary institutions are being run.
It described the current management’s initiative on the right placement of its staff as a right step in the right direction, considering the wrong placements and postings embarked upon by the previous director-general.
