Fistula Centre Ningi, in Ningi
Local Government area of Bauchi
State, has carried out corrective
surgery on over 400 vvf patients.
This was disclosed by the
Medical Director of the Centre,
Dr Umar Nasiru Ibrahim, when
the wife of the Speaker of House
of Representatives donated
medical and other supplies to the
He explained that the operation
carried out on the hospital’s
patients recorded about 90
percent success out of the total
number of operations carried out.
Dr. Ibrahim stated that the
centre which was established
two years ago to serve the North
Eastern states now cater for
patients from almost all parts
of the country as well as other
Nigeria’s regional neighbours
like Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
He however informed that
the centre still operates from
the temporary site it is sharing
with Ningi General Hospital
due to lack of structures at its
permanent site.
He commended the President’s
wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari and
the speaker’s wife for their
contributions towards the
upliftment of women, children
and the less privileged in the
society all over the country.
He also appealed to the federal
government to provide take
off grant to the centre while
calling on the speaker’s and
the president’s wife to liase
with other NGOs to build a
rehabilitation centre for the VVF
patients as well as provide an
Ambulance and another utility
vehicle to assist in the operation
of the centre.
It could be recalled that the
speaker’s wife, Gimbiya Dogara
Yakubu donated some items
through her Non Governmental
Organisation, NGO, Sun of
Hope Foundation, which include
computers, beds, mattresses,
detergents and foodstuffs as parts
of her social responsibilities.
She further explained that her
foundation was established with
the objective of assisting women
in health care delivery, education
and economic empowerment.
Dogara appealed to
well meaning Nigerians,
philanthropists and other Non
Governmental Organizations
to come to the aid of the VVF
patients by donating necessary
items or facilities to rescue the
