Acting Postmaster General of Nigerian Postal Services, NIPOST, Architect Enoch Ade Ogun has disclosed that the agency generates N5 billion annually for the federal government.
Ogun who made the disclosure while fielding question from journalists at the 2015 world Post day celebration at the weekend in Abuja, noted that the agency is determined to provide quality services to customer with a view to increasing its revenue generation.
According to him, “we will do everything possible within the limit of available resources to provide the necessary facilities that will ensure better services to Nigerians”. Adding that, we are determined to recreate the post office in Nigeria”.
He said “We have resolve to procure mail delivery vans including motorcycles, create enabling environment for all the necessary adjustments, human capital and the greatest assert of our industry will be motivated through incentives that will ginger them to always give their best to the customers.
To this ends, the acting postmaster have directed all Area post managers to ensure strict adherence to targets of twenty-four hours delivery of intra-city mails, forty-eight hours inter-state mail while seventy-eight hours for nationwide delivery respectively aimed at ensuring that its remain relevant in the multiple jet age.
He said “Any failure by anyone will not be condoned because this not business as usual, we want to make NIPOST the best, in the next few years,
The acting postmaster noted that, “Our current instance massages enables it to access messages and respond to the immediately as they are arriving at the post. The instance massages have also improved our packages.
“It is important to note here that this has nothing to do with personal letters because when people hear about NIPOST, all that come to our mind think about NIPOST is personal letters, we have gone beyond that, things have change and we are working hard to ensure that we meet up the standard of global practice”.
Adding that, “With the digital inclusion and other strategies we have put in place, I know that NIPOST will be very useful in the present change administration, especially in the area of digital inclusion for financial institutions in the country.
“We are partnering with banks to ensure that some Nigerians living in the rural areas who may not be get bank sited in their area but want to operate an account with the bank could go to any of our offices spread across the federation and do so, and they will also access their money through our canter in the same manner”.
Ogun noted the celebration of the day is aimed at creating awareness about the role of postal sector and its contributions towards social and economic development of the country with a view to awaken the consciousness of the generality of Nigerians to the new improved NIPOST and the various services and product it is offering .
The theme for this year’s celebration is: The post: delivering for the people and businesses daily”.
