No fewer than 468 illegal immigrants were repatriated from Katsina State borders in 2015, an official said on Tuesday.

The Comptroller of Immigration in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Alfa, made the fact known in Katsina while briefing newsmen on the achievements recorded by the command during the year.

He said that 16, 096 foreigners were refused entry into the country at various border points in the state for the lack of necessary documents.

The comptroller said that the service also refused 5,448 Nigerians request to leave the country for not having valid travel documents.

“Katsina Command of the Immigration Service issued 924 ECOWAS travel certificates to some Nigerians to enable them to travel within the West African sub-region in 2015,’’ he said.

Alfa said that “584 foreigners were registered during the period to enable them to carry out their legal businesses in the country.

“This command also issued 10,386 e-passports to some Nigerians where it generated the sum of N172.1 million as revenue to the Federal Government.’’

He also said that the service arrested 34 suspected human traffickers and handed them over to the relevant authorities for necessary action.

Alfa also said that 37,358 foreigners entered the country through the state, while 25,645 left the country through the state during the year.
