Senate and House of
Representatives Committee
on Land Transport have
stated that the Nigerian
Institute of Transport
Technology, NITT, would
be upgraded to become a
university degree awarding
The committee led
by it chairmen, Senator
Olugbenga Ashafa and
Honourable Aminu Sani
Isa disclosed this while on
oversight function to NITT
in Zaria yesterday and
charged the leadership of
the institute to work harder
for the upgrade to a degree
awarding status.
“The committee is
dedicated to encouraging
the institute to work harder
in order to meet necessary
standards for the upgrade of
the institute to a university
degree awarding status.
“Incidentally, this is the
only educational institution
fully focused on Transport
Technology in the West
Africa sub region. Hence, it
should become an avenue
for education tourism for
Nigeria,” he said.
He also charged the
institute to imbibe modern
management techniques as
well as improve on internally
generated revenue options.
On his part, Chairman,
House of Representative
Committee on Land
Transport, Hon Aminu
Sani Isa, also commended
the management of the

that Nigerian road users
experience and imbibe
attitudinal change in
line with President
Muhammadu Buhari’s

Earlier in his address,
Director General and Chief
Executive of NITT, Alhaji
Aminu Yusuf, called for
closer working relationship
between the Institute and
the legislature to enable
it achieve effective and
efficient transport system in
the country.
He said the major
challenges facing the
institution include poor
budgetary releases, and
poor patronage from
He therefore, requested
for the amendment of NITTs
enabling Act, and need to
domesticate the Chartered
Institute of Logistics and
Transport in the country.
