Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Kano State council, on Thursday threw its weight behind the aviation unions to protest increasing delays and staggering of FAAN workers’ salary payment.

The NLC also expressed total support to the aviation workers on the one-day nationwide administrative warning strike.

Speaking at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, during the protest by FAAN workers, the Vice-Chairman, NLC Kano Branch, Comrade Ado Salisu Riruwai, described FAAN workers’ salary slash by the federal government as a “shameful and greedy act” which he said would put the lives of the workers in jeopardy.

Also, other demands of the workers include full payment of all outstanding salaries, full remittances of all outstanding Co-operatives, pensions, tax, deductions and full payment of all outstanding allowances, grants and claims.

Although flights operations were not affected in the administrative warning strike, offices were closed and there were no administrative activities at the airport.

The workers’ unions include the National Union of Air Transports Employees, NUATE, Air Transport Services Senior Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professional, ANAP.

In his speech at the administrative block of the airport, the chairman of National Union of Air Transport Employees, MAKIA chapter, Comrade Zakaria Muhammad Dauda, said workers were aggrieved with the way they were being treated by FAAN.
