Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Ekiti State, has appealled to Governor Ayo Fayose, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, the Council of Ekiti State Traditional
Rulers and other concerned stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and proactive security strategy to curb the menace of kidnapping in the state.
NMA chairman in the state, Dr. Akinbote John at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti yesterday said the association was highly disturbed and grossly disappointed by the level of protective and investigative measures put in place so far by security operatives in the state.
NMA noted: “We are disturbed and grossly disappointed by the level of protective and investigative measures put in place so far by the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshua Ibine and the director, Department of State Services, DSS, Mr. Duke Fubarian in curbing the menace of kidnapping, murder and other criminalities in the state.”
According to it, “The recent incessant threat messages to our members followed the perceived security lacunae by these kidnappers and unidentified individuals since the serial cases of abductions.”
The association asseted that several security meetings in the state have yielded little or no result as medical doctors, health workers, lectures and other citizens still move about with morbid fear of possible attack.
The doctors called on the kidnappers to please have a rethink and release their captives unconditionally so that the society could be transformed rather than inflicting pain on the citizens.
The NMA said phone calls and threat messages to their members were increasing day by day with the same number which they had reported to security agencies without any positive action.
The NMA leadership therefore called on their members to remove, immediately, all stickers on their cars, live a low profile life for now and be security conscious.
They called on well meaning citizens in the state to assist in the release of all kidnapped persons in the state, including Mrs. Margret Aladenika, a nurse, Dr. Femi Omisore, Mrs. Kikelomo Adegun and others.
