Pipeline vandals struck at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC pipeline at Ije Ododo line, in Lagos around 11:15pm on Monday, causing a huge fire.
To stop the spread of the fire, the NNPC shutdown flows and locked the supply valves.
Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, said men of the fire service and other law enforcement agents were alerted but could put out the fire until yesterday morning.
He said that securing access to the scene proved extremely difficult due to swampy nature of the area.
Farinloye said that in recent times Ije Ododo and Arepo have been “very volatile and extremely dangerous due to activities of the vandals.”
The Ije Ododo line is from Atlas Cove which supplies products to Mosinmi Depot for distribution to other parts of South-West zone.
At the time of filing this report, there was no confirmation of any casualty from the pipeline fire.
