Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party in the Edo state gubernatorial elections, Ambassador Agol Adun Tracy has decried the the current economic hardship and the high cost of living currently being experienced by Nigerians, promising to take urgent measures to address them if voted into office as Governor.
She said this at the official flag off ceremony of her campaign held at NUJ premises in Benin.
According to her, the NNPP blueprint for development in Edo and other states in the federation is to to work towards a reduction in the high cost of living as well as provide jobs, complete projects by predecessors and start new ones in a bid to make life comfortable for Nigerians
She said her administration will go down in history as one that developed an enviable record of making massive investment in roads, water, sanitation, healthcare, education, infrastructure without stealing a kobo.
She therefore called on Nigerians to jettison the idea of voting ” regular” candidates who are in the habit of taking advantage of their ill gotten support to make life hard for them saying that many of them are in the race for themselves not the generality of Nigerians.
“We are here to change the narrative. We all know and are living witnesses to how the older generation of politicians who I call regular candidates , seems to be more committed to themselves and schemes that will make their pockets fatter than in delivering on their core mandate of developing the state and reducing the suffering of the people. Now is the time to break those chains of slavery. We must say no to them on election day if our lives will ever better. ”
“You can use lies and deceit to gain power. But you cannot use lies and deceit to run and sustain a government”
“As stipulated by law, the time has come, this year, for us to vote and decide who leads us. Let us use the power of our thumbs to change Edo state and bring in a government that can change our circumstances, and bring relief, progress and prosperity to all. This change is not negotiable. Its a task that must be done for our lives to be better. ”
Commenting on the on going crisis in the Edo state House of Assembly, Hon. Ambassador Agol called on the candidates to address their minds to issues instead of flooding the minds of the citizens with utterances directed at heating up the polity and tarnishing the image of one another.
Agol who described such attitudes as function of immaturity, urged them to borrow examples from the civilised societies where democracy is practised without recourse to acrimony and violence.
She said the New Nigeria Peoples party take exception to the way the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Congress are running the affairs of the Assembly like their personal Estate.
She said when the APC legislators were denied the privilege of taking their seat in the Assembly , they took their grievance to Comrade Oshiomhole in Abuja instead of seeking other means of asserting their rights.
On the part of the PDP, Governor Obaseki assigned emergency contractors to start renovating the Assembly even when provision was not made for such an exercise in this year’s appropriation act.
Earlier the NNPP flagbearer was at the palace of the Oba of Benin Oba Eeuare 11 to seek his royal blessing and advise .
In a remark Oba Ewuare the 11 expressed delight that Nigerian democracy was advancing to.new frontiers with women playing a major role for the first time. He expressed hope that the trend will continue.
