Police in Gombe State have stated that no device was found on the suspect said to have been arrested on his way to bomb a church on Christmas day in Gombe, the state capital.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, said police had commenced investigation into the issue to find out what made the suspect to dress like a woman.
He called on the members of the public to be security-conscious any where they find themselves.
Mr Faruk Dankuka, Chairman Caretaker Committee, Billiri Local Government Council of Gombe State, debunked claims that there was a suicide bomber at Komta village during Christmas celebration.
According to him, the suspect has been arrested by police for allegedly disguising as a woman but without any device.
Dankuka said police had commenced investigation into the issue, adding that he and the Mai (Chief) of Tangale Community had visited the police station in the village in respect of the incident.
“Police arrested someone in Komta village, but the news has started going round that the suspect was trying to plant a bomb.
‘’The information we gathered from police is that no device was found with him.
“He was just one of those that dress like women. From the ongoing investigation, the man could be one of the homosexuals’’, he said.
The chairman said that ‘’for now, nobody can say he is a suicide bomber or not until investigation is concluded.”
He called on the people to continue to live in peace and to be their brothers’ keepers at all time, as well as to be security- conscious.
Dankuka advised them to also report anything suspicious to security agencies. NAN
