Chairman, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Kuje Area Council, Ibrahim Kabi has said that the on-going strike in Kuje and other four Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT will continue indefinitely until their 20 percent monetization arrears is paid.
Kabi made the statement yesterday in Kuje when our correspondent spoke with him on telephone, adding that the only thing that will make them call off the strike is when concrete arrangement is reached with the management of the area councils.
Only Kwali Area Council did not join the ongoing strike because the staff have been paid the monetization arrears.
One of the aggrieved staff in Kuje who spoke anonymously said the present council administration which enjoyed their support during the electioneering campaign and elections had came up with policies that are putting the entire staff to untold hardship.
Efforts to speak to the Council Chairman, Mr. Ishaku Shaban Tete on the issue failed as he was said to be gone out for a meeting.
Press Secretary to chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Mr. Ephraim Audu, in a statement however assured that the council boss, Micah Y. Jiba was making every effort to resolve the issue by paying the employees their arrears.
