GOVERNOR Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has debunked insinuations in some sections of the media suggesting that the state government was planning to compensate families of the two workers that lose their lives during the visit of the national President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba to the state.

The governor, in a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur described the media report as misleading and totally false, saying that the publication was a calculated attempt to create an impression that the state government had owned up to the unfortunate death of the two workers.

“The report is mischievously calculated to jeopardize or pre-empt the
on-going investigation by the police and the National Human Rights
Commission especially that both parties have returned to negotiation
table facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment”

“It will therefore amount to overreaching the two investigative
agencies to make any decision on the matter as this may pre-empt or
temper with the investigation”. The statement maintained.

He said that the position of the state government was to await the outcome of the investigation by the National Human Rights Commission and the Nigeria Police while adhering to the interim order by the National Human Rights Commission for all parties to the case to maintain status quo.
