Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Friday Kombowei Benson yesterday described claims by Mr. Ebifegha Orunimighe of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that re-run elections would hold in Southern Ijaw LGA as untrue.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had not rescheduled any re-run election in the LGA, but the only rerun election known to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was that of Ekeremor Constituency 3.
In a statement signed and issued by his media assistant, Mr.
Aotendeike Boloigha, the speaker averred that members of the party were making preparations to mobilise voters in Ekeremor to ensure the party’s victory.
He restated his earlier claim of victory at the Appeal Court
as the elected member for Southern Ijaw Constituency 4 in the state House of Assembly.
He maintained that “the issues surrounding the purported judgement paraded by the APC is already being challenged in
a motion on notice filed before the National Judicial Council, NJC, Appeal Court of Port Harcourt Division and other relevant authorities for redress.
“I see no reason why Mr. Ebifegha Orunimighe and his supporters will take a legal issue to the press rather than seeking clearance from the court; I advice him to stop spreading what is not in existence.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission is an institution established by law. I call on my teeming supporters and the people of Southern Ijaw 4 to remain calm and go about their businesses. The PDP and myself are never scared of elections any day, as we are well grounded and will always emerge victorious.”
