The era of godfatherisim and corruption in Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, is over, the Comptroller General of Custom, CGC, Col. Hamid Ali (rtd) said this yesterday.
Speaking in Sokoto, while addressing officers and men of the Command in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara State at H/quarter, Sokoto, the Custom boss, announced capital punishment for any officer caught for corruption which is a minimum of (5)years jails term, while a maximum of 10 years jail term.
“We have zero tolerance for corruption and other offences”, Hamid Ali explained.
His word: “Most customs officers are corrupt and I cannot beat my chest and said custom officers are not corrupt, but because you are the eyes of the people in our territorial borders”, he said.
“You have a lot of boarding and task ahead”, you have a lot of morally discipline to protect. But if you think of joining this job to make money you will be dismissed.
While noted that discipline is one of our paramount areas saying” we want to restored integrity, honesty and transparency in the system.
He also said “No more act of indiscipline and those that are given role to play most ensure discipline is restored in to the system, he equally blasted those officers who resigned that Mr. President has lost confidence and integrity in the officers that is why I was deployed to restored law and order.
According to the former, Kaduna State Governor, he said once there are bad eggs in organizations or place there will be no obey of order, but if there honest people in a place there will be discipline too.
“If we don’t discipline those people they will go against the law”, he added. “Nobody is above the law, once you do the wrong thing there should be capital punishment for that to serve as deterrent to others. We are here to address the wrong.
Commenting on the issue of sports, Col. Hamid Ali however, said that officer most engage themsleves in sporting activities to enable them look feet at all time and on duty.
At last, he said the revenue generation for the federal government is paramount as those that perform will be equally elevated.
“This time around elevations will be based on hardworking not on favourotism”, he concluded.
