Piqued by the leadership crisis at the National Assembly, a Northern group under the auspices of Arewa Youth Development Association, AYDA, has admonished Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and his aggrieved members to sheath their sword.
This was as the group called on Tinubu and aggrieved members to embrace the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the group in conjunction with other eleven groups across the 19 northern states held at Tavern Hotel, Kaduna yesterday, the National President of AYDA, Alhaji Imrana Wada Nas threatened to fight back if those aggrieved failed to accept Bukola Saraki.
The group continued when it vowed to resist any attempt by some politicians within and outside All Progressives Congress, APC to frustrate the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.
Alhaji Nas said it is only when the aggrieved senators concede defeat and allow peace to reign that the lawmakers could settle down for legislative duty which they were primarily elected for.
“We are just wondering what could have informed the rejection of Saraki after he was duly election by 57 senate members against 51.
According to him, now that the APC has accepted Senator Saraki’s emergence as Senate President, it is expected that aggrieved party leaders and members do the needful by accepting him as their leader.
“We have high regard for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other aggrieved members but as concerned Nigerians, we urge everyone to sheath the sword.
“All we are urging them to do is to allow Nigerians enjoy the good governance and concrete dividends of democracy.
“At least, majority of Nigerians clamoured and voted in the 2015 election that brought President Buhari to power, so the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not hold us to ransom just because he didn’t succeed in imposing his preferred candidates in the Senate and House of Representatives.
“We have high regard for Tinubu , especially for the invaluable contributions to the APC merger and success of the party during the 2015 elections . This is why we are advising him to accept Senator Saraki as the elected Senate President, join hands with him to ensure smooth relationship between the executive and legislature.
“We stand by Senator Saraki, not because he is a northerner; we are doing so as a group of responsible Nigerians who believe in the unity, progress and development of this country.
Thus we are calling on Tinubu and other aggrieved APC members to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.
“We are glad to inform you that as we address you, after the meeting with President Buhari and other stakeholders yesterday, APC has finally accepted that Senator Saraki remains the Senate President, and so we expect the aggrieved members to follow suit,” the group stated.
