Muslim Student Society of Nigeria, MSSN, B-Zone has threatened to stage a protest against the timing of subjects for the November/December West African School Certificate Examination, WASCE, which reportedly coincides with Friday prayers.
The Society demanded the examination body to, within 48 hours, adjust the time table for the subjects said to fall within prayer times or risk mobilising Muslims students across the nation for a protest.
Addressing a press conference yesterday at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ Secretariat, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the Zonal Coordinator of the society, Alaran Mushafau Kehinde said the examination body should not be bigger than Nigeria and its constitution.
The Association described fixing examinations during Jumat service as bias to the sanctity and the fundamental right of Muslims and Islam.
According to Alaran, the act is considered as deliberate, barbaric, bluffing and disenfranchising, adding that it translates to taking Muslims for fun and disrespectful to the religion.
The Association placed empathies on Forestry (Essay), Government (Essay), Further Mathematics and Applied Electricity of 11th, 18th and 25th September respectively which are fixed between 1pm and 3.30pm of Fridays.
“MSSN demands immediate apology from WAEC and the time table should be adjusted and the affected subjects should commence from 1500hr rather than the 1300hr or 1400hr.
“Failure to adjust the time table as demanded within 48 hours, MSSN will mobilise Muslim students throughout the Federation and fight the injustice within the ambit of the law.”
