Enyimba welcome Enugu Rangers to Aba for today’s Oriental Derby as they seek to take charge of the NPFL leaderboard, as Sunshine Stars have a tough away game.
The Aba giants managed to beat Rangers 2-1 in Enugu with Christian Obiozor, a former Rangers’ striker returning to dent the hopes of his former employers before Andrew Abalogu got the decisive strike eight minutes from time. Rangers had equalized with Godwin Aguda’s leveller but they had no sufficient time to recover from the second goal converted by Abalogu.
Both parties have been talking tough with Enyimba more vocal because of the edge they had during the first leg played in Enugu two weeks ago.
Enyimba’s striker, Amanfor Chimezie told Goal that the players of the People’s Elephant know what is at stake and they are willing to do everything possible for them to record a sensational double over their illustrious brothers.
“We are in this game with everything we have. We won’t allow the result of the first leg to get into our heads. We are desperate to record a double over Rangers and we are ready to do everything possible to realize that. We will be happy to record the maximum points and stamp our authority as one of the teams to look out for this season,” said Amanfor.Enyimba
Despite occupying the second position on the log with 36 points from 19 matches and only below Sunshine Stars, Enyimba are still among the busiest teams in the transfer market with reports linking them with Sharks’ Christian Pyagbara, Joshua Enaholo and Musa Najere already.
Rangers have not been quiet, they had little problem preparatory to their tie with Enyimba after it was alleged that players of the Flying Antelopes abandoned training session over unpaid wages but they have managed to weather the storm after the intervention of the Enugu State Government.
They were given two million Naira recently by the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and it was also reported that the Governor approved the payment of their salary arrears. He also urged them to win the league and the Federation Cup at the end of the season. He said this during a dinner he had with the team earlier this week.
