It was a case of a bad day in the office yesterday for Shooting Stars of Ibadan and FC IfeanyiUbah in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
While Kano Pillars recorded the biggest win of the Nigeria league season with a stunning 6-0 thumping of visiting Shooting Stars 6-0 in Kano, Wikki Tourists tamed FC IfeanyiUbah 3-0 at the Tafawa Belewa Stadium in Bauchi.
Emmanuel Edmund grabbed a hat-trick with Ifeanyi Matthew, Adamu Mohammed and Nafiu Ibrahim also getting on the scoreboard. Pillars now have 21 points from 12 matches.
Ifeanyi Matthew opened scoring for Pillars with a low drive after 11 minutes, before Edmund doubled the lead in the 37th minute.
Edmund grabbed his brace in the 58th minute and completed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute, before late strikes by Adamu Mohammed and Nafiu Ibrahim.
The heavy defeat has clearly showed up the sharp divisions of Shooting Stars, whose players have not been paid for the past five months.
In Bauchi, Wikki opened scoring in the 30minutes of play after Obaje Godwin capitalized a defensive error to tap in the first goal that brought the stadium alive.
On resumption into the second half Ambrose Wikki defender overlapped by beating almost six players of Ifeanyi Uba and chipped in to heat the cross bar before Abubakar Lawal scored the second goal in the 51minutes of play.
Abubakar Lawal scored the brace in the 79minutes after a pullout from Idris Moh’d to give the Abdul Maikaba boys the maximum points.
Speaking after the match, Ifeanyi Uba Technical Adviser, Mitki Debrov blamed his goalkeeper for the defeat and commended Wikki Tourists for earning a deserved victory.
Coach Maikaba praised his boys for brilliant performance and promised to work ahead of their next away match against Giwa FC.
