SUNSHINE STARS 2-1 FC TARABA
Sunshine Stars defeated FC Taraba 2-1 in a Week 19 Nigeria Professional Football League encounter at the Akure Township Stadium.
A brace from red-hot Tunde Adeniji were all the home side needed to put the visitors who went ahead courtesy of Stephen Adah in the 11th minute to the sword.
The hosts began the game on a very bright note as they went close to getting the curtain raiser after 34 seconds as Adeniji’s effort was deflected for a corner.
Despite the early dominance of the hosts, the visitors took surprise lead in the 10th minute through Adah who converted a corner kick that left goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa stranded but a late first half goal and the second from Adeniji ensured the hosts not only secure maximum points but also ended the first half of the season as champions with 36 points.
Taraba FC on their own part have 12 points from ahead games.
RANGERS 1-2 ENYIMBA
Kadiri Ikhana’s men recorded their fourth away win in the Nigeria topflight after defeating the Flying Antelopes at their fortress in Enugu.
Enyimba took the lead through Christian Obiozor in the 56th minute after Kalu Orji had handled the ball in his goal area.
Rangers leveled up via the penalty spot in the 78th minute after Etim was brought down. The visitors however sealed the win eight minutes from time through Ezekiel Bassey.
Enyimba are second on the log with 36 points while Enugu Rangers slumped to the 10th position after 19 games.
ABIA WARRIORS 1-0 IFEANYI UBAH
A second half penalty goal was all the hosts needed to dust off the challenge of the Anambra Warriors in the NPFL.
Ndifreke Effiong’s strike in the 72nd minute lifted the hosts to the seventh position with 29 points while Ifeanyi Ubah dropped to the eight position with 27 points from 19 matches.
NASARAWA UNITED 1-0 DOLPHINS
Dolphins crashed 1-0 to hosts Nasarawa United in Lafia on Saturday.
The Port Harcourt based side failed to convert begging chances that came their way through Chinwendu Ali, Omoh Johnson and Godbless Asamoah.
Leonard Ugochukwu’s strike in the second half put Dolphins to the sword despite Stanley Eguma bringing on Ifeanyi Egwim and Daniel Victor.
Nasarawa United are 11thh on the log with 26 points from 19 games while Dolphins are a place above the base of the table with 17 points.
HEARTLAND 4-0 WIKKI TOURIST
The Naze Millionaires defeated the Bauchi-based side 4-0 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League match day 19 clash at the Rojenny Stadium in Oba.
A brace from attacking midfielder Julius Ubido and a goal each from the duo, Bright Ejike and Emeka Ogbugh, proved adequate to hand the Owerri outfit the three maximum points at stake.
The win takes Heartland to fourth on the league with 32 points while Wikki remain third with 33 points.
3SC 2-1 EL KANEMI
Shooting Stars came from behind to beat visiting El-kanemi 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
El-Kanemi however took the lead through Mustapha in the 60th minute after profiting from a defensive error on the part of the hosts.
Ajani Ibrahim leveled put soon before 3SC took the lead after Moses James buried a shot from a rebound, a goal which El-Kanemi players protested but the referee stood his ground.
LOBI STARS 3-3 KANO PILLARS
Lobi Stars staged a remarkable comeback against champions Kano Pillars in a Nigeria league fixture.
Adamu Hassan was the hero for Pillars after getting a double in the encounter after breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute before completing his brace in the second half.
Anthony Agbaji made it 3-0 for the visitors when he turned Ezekiel Mbah’s cross into his own net for an own goal in the 50th minute.
Two minutes later, Akleche Enokela pulled one back for Lobi Stars following a mix-up in the Pillars defence.
Pillars were cruising home to their second away win of the season, when Tony Okpotu made it 3-3 for Lobi.
Pillars now have 27 points from 19 games, while Lobi have 21 points.
KWARA UNITED 3-1 GIWA
Kwara United Football Club defeated Giwa FC 3-1 on Sunday in the NPFL.
Goals from Gata Usman, Abubakar Yusuf and Halilu Babadaki were all the Harmony Boys needed to cruise to a convincing win at the Ilorin Township Stadium, while Giwa FC got their only goal of the game in the 45th minute from a goal scored by Adamu Musa.
Kwara United are 15th on the log with 22 points from 19 games, while Giwa are fifth despite their slip.
