Director-General of National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut yesterday met with various Presidents of Sports Federations especially those whose federations would be taking part in this year’s All Africa Games, AAG.
The meeting which was convened at the Media Centre of Abuja National Stadium equally witnessed the attendance of senior stakeholders in the sports sector.
Though the details of the gathering was sketchy as at the time of filing this report, Nigerian Pilot Sports specifically learnt that Yakmut is at the moment making moves to play down on his recent invitation to Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.
EFCC had last week invited the NSC DG after it received several petitions against the latter.
On arrival at the EFCC office, officials grilled Mallam Yakmut for hours insisting that he respond to all questions bordering on financial mismanagement leveled against him.
It was there that he was given a moderated version of the petition against him. He read the petition and responded to every issue raised with documents to back his claim. He was released on administrative bail with a promise that he would be recalled anytime he is needed.
A senior official in the sports commission who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that though the new DG seems to be making approval, some Directors are not happy with the way and manner he has handled affairs of the commission, especially since former Sports Minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo’s tenure expired with the immediate past government.
He added, “All is not well with some issues concerning the commission. This has been the matter anytime money is released by the federal government to the commission. I can’t say more than this for now.”
Effort to contact Mallam Yakmut for comments as at press time was unsuccessful as he was said to be holding technical meetings.
