Director General, National Sports Commission, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut has sought for inter-agency collaboration to explore for companies that will invest in sports, so as to generate revenue for sports development and the creation of jobs in Nigeria.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Investment, Ambassador Abdulkadir Musa in Abuja, Mallam Yakmut explained that the commission is rebranding in order to explore industrial clientele that can produce sporting wears that will attract sponsorship and endorsement.
The Director General said sports alone, when properly harnessed will contribute significantly to the gross domestic product and generate massive employment to Nigerian youths, citing the instance of transfer fees of English players that runs into millions of dollars and in turn boost the economies of host countries.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Musa assured the Director General of his Ministry’s desire to collaborate, saying that his Ministry will look for persons that are interested in the project.
According to him “We are on the same mission, and we will achieve the mission together”.
