As the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp NSCDC, marked the 2017 World Civil Defence Day, the Commandant General of the Corp, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has reiterated that the welfare of his personnel is very paramount considering the sensitive tasks they are saddled with.
The CG made this disclosure on Thursday, at the corps headquarters in Abuja during a short ceremony marking the 80th Anniversary of the International Civil Defence Organisation Day ICDO, with the theme: ” TOGETHER WITH CIVIL DEFENCE AGAINST DISASTERS”.
In his words, ”as we mark the World Civil Defence Day, I will like to sincerely thank all Civil Defenders across the length and breadth of Nigeria for their patriotism, doggedness, courage and readiness to defend the interest of the civilian population and to protect them from disasters. I will also like to pay tribute to the victims of duty who have scarified their lives in the course of their work”.
The CG noted with joy, that as the 66th Member Nation of the ICDO, the NSCDC is strengthened in all frontiers to deliver on its mandate. As the Lead Agency in charge of the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets, we have reduced vandalism of Public Assets to the barest minimum, and in due course, We will stamp out this criminal act completely in the Nigerian State.
In continuous appreciation of the positive high spirit of service to Nigeria by the Officers and Men of NSCDC, the Leader of the Civil Defence astutely asserted, ” I want to assure you my good Personnel once again, that your welfare is very paramount in my priority list as your Commandant General. You should continue to put in your best and be shining examples in every area of your deployments, and be rest assured that your interest is being protected at the centre ”.
Gana disclosed that as the Lead Agency in charge of Disaster Management and Emergency situation, the Corps in line with this year’s theme of ICDO wish to state that, over 3000 Personnel are presently in the North East keeping the peace. He saluted the courage and gallantry of the Officers and Men of the Corps who last week arrested two female suicide bombers in the North East, thanking the Almighty God for the feat, that before the girls could wreck any havoc they were apprehended.
The Corps helmsman highlighted that the welfare for Officers and Men includes, trainings and the retraining of staff, providing accommodation for the personnel, payment of salary as at when due and making the personnel to be comfortable to enable them discharge and excel in their duties at all times.
The celebration which was very colourful enjoyed demonstrations from the Quarter Guard, Provost, Sports, Disaster Management, Kernel and the NSCDC Band Units and Departments of the Corps.
In his own words, Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization ICDO, Dr. Vladimir Kuvshinov, declared that the celebration serve to focus public attention on the role of Civil Defence and the vital necessity of disaster prevention and preparedness.
This, according to the secretary General, is to promote and disseminate knowledge about the role and place of civil protection in modern society.
Gana thanked the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria for their great support and encouragement, promising that the NSCDC has resolved never to diminish in relevance and capability.
