Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has deployed an Assistant Commandant General, ACG, 4 Commandants, as well as 2,000 personnel for the re-run elections in Rivers State scheduled for this coming Saturday.
According to a statement by the NSCDC PRO, ACC Emmanuel Okeh, the CG directed the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone E, Owerri, Alhaji Abdullahi Lapai, to relocate to Port-Harcourt to oversee the operations in the Rivers State re-run election.
Mr. Okeh said Muhammadu noted that the corps had significant role to play before, during and after elections.
The corps helmsman called on the political parties and political actors not to use inciting languages during campaign in order to guide against activities of hoodlums and thugs.
The statement said, “Muhammadu emphasised that as the lead agency in the protection of critical infrastructure, adequate personnel will be deployed around the various locations to protect the nation’s infrastructure in the state from being vandalised by saboteurs.”
The statement quoted the CG as saying: “I trust that the strong presence of the NSCDC personnel with other security operatives in the Rivers State re-run election will bring about a hitch-free election, as all focus will be on the election in the state. ‘’
He therefore urged political actors to abide by the rules of the game and parents to caution their wards to desist from being used by desperate politicians as thugs to disrupt the electoral processes, as anyone caught fomenting trouble would be dealt with decisively in line with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
