In order to checkmate cases of ghost workers and impostors, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has commenced screening of its personnel across the country.
Consequently, the corps has deployed machines to capture biometric data of its officers and men nationwide.
Spokesman for the corps at the national headquarters, Abuja, an Assistant Commandant, Emmanuel Okeh confirmed to Nigerian Pilot that the exercise would enable the corps ascertain the number of its workforce.
ACC Okeh said the exercise was in line with the federal government’s policy to capture all federal staff and ensure harmonised data-based system.
When our correspondent visited the NSCDC national headquarters and the FCT command headquarters at Gudu District yesterday, both places were busy with long queues personnel trying to participate in the exercise.
It was gathered that the personnel were to present their letters of enrollment into the corps, upon which the biometric data would be captured and new identity card issued.
Meanwhile, the NSCDC Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has charged members of the corps to shun corruption and remain focused to national service.
Gana assured the personnel that welfare of officers and men remained his primary concern.
The CG stated this in Abuja yesterday while appraising the performance of his personnel at the just concluded Bayelsa State re-run election.
The NSCDC boss equally applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the conduct of the polls, as well as the police and other security agencies for the synergy during the exercise.
According to a statement by the corps’ national PRO, ACC Emmanuel Okeh, Gana noted that there wasno perfect society in the world, highlighting that though there were some skirmishes during the election, the overall performance of INEC and security agencies was highly commendable.
Mr. Okeh quoted his principal as saying that, “I really appreciate the efforts of my personnel, INEC, the Police and other security agencies who worked together to make the Bayelsa State governorship re-run election a huge success. I trust that this synergy exhibited will continue to enable us actualise our collective aim in having a very secured society.”
The CG admonished the personnel to be dedicated and committed in the discharge of their duties at all times.
