EQUITIES trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 0.25 percent yesterday in comparison with 0.01 percent lost on Tuesday as All Share Index (ASI) specifically added 70.18 points to close at 27,880.46 points compared to a decline of 1.78 points to close at 27,810.28 on Tuesday, trimming the year to date losses to -2.66 percent.
The Market Capitalization which is the total market value of all publicly quoted firms on the NSE also appreciated by N24.1 billion to close at N9.575 trillion compared to N611.2 million lost previously to close at N9.551 trillion.
Market breadth closed with 17 gainers to 17 losers, as Wema Bank Plc led the day’s 17 advancing stocks having improved by 9.38 percent or 6 kobo to close at 70 kobo per share, Fidson Healthcare Plc followed with a growth of 5 percent or 8 kobo to close at N1.68 per share, Forte Oil Plc also gained 5 percent or N8.50 to close at N178.60 per share, BOC Gases Plc gained 4.85 percent or 18 kobo to close at N3.89 per share and Eco Transnational Incorporated Plc appreciated by 2.32 percent or 26 kobo to close at N11.45 per share.
Diamond Bank Plc led the day’s retreating stocks having dropped by 8.94 percent or 11 kobo to close at N1.12 per share, May & Baker Plc lost 7.34 percent or 8 kobo to close at N1.01 per share, FCMB Plc fell 5 percent or 6 kobo to close at N1.14 per share, Academy Press Plc declined by 5 percent or 3 kobo to settle at 57 kobo per share, and Honeywell Flourmills Plc depreciated by 4.29 percent or 6 kobo to close at N1.34 per share.
The total value of stocks traded on the floors of The NSE on Wednesdayamounted to N2.95 billion, while a total of 230.3 million shares exchanged hands in 3,002 deals.
The top three traded stocks were: Guaranty Trust Bank Plc with the sale of 37.9 million shares worth N992.6 million, Zenith Bank Plc followed with the trade 30.4 million stocks valued at N465.3 million and Fidelity Bank Plc exchanged 30.1 million shares worth N30.4 million.
