Sports NSF 2020: We are ready to host as Gov. Obaseki signs MoU Published 3 months ago on February 5, 2019 By Afolabi James Share Tweet Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has said that the state would make a landmark in the history of the National Sports Festival as they host the games on March 2020. Obaseki said this during the signing the Memorandum of Understanding between Edo State and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Abuja yesterday. He said the state would not leave anything behind towards the hosting as he clearly understands the implications of hosting the festival. “Our old State Bendel was an integral part those that started the festival after the war and we are cognisant of the role it plays such uniting the country and discover young talents that will be harness for international competitions,” he said The Governor disclosed that they have commenced work since the hosting rights was given to them by commencing works on the venue and facilities through the refurbishing of Ogbe Stadium. “We are ready and we want to make it a memorable one,” the Edo state number one citizen affirmed. Commenting on the decision to grant the rights to Edo State, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung said the MoU ceremony was not to further confirm but also to reassures that the the host of the 20th edition of the festival is ready and willing to undertake the responsibilities associated with hosting a festival of this magnitude. Dalung said he was further encouraged with the venues and facilities he saw in Edo State during a recent visit to the State. He however reminded the governor of the requirements needed as host such as: setting up of a Local Organising Committee (LOC), and sub-committees. Providing befitting board and lodge for members of the MOC, Games and services sub-committees and MOC Secretariat for the duration of the festival. Ensure the security of lives and property of all dignitaries, athletes, officials, spectators, guests and others throughout the period of the festival.
