One of the presidential aspirants for the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Rotimi Obamiwagun has pledged to introduce new free insurance scheme for every working journalists in the country if elected in the forthcoming NUJ national Delegates Conference scheduled to hold in Abuja end of this Month.
Prince Obamiwagun made the promise when he visited Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists during his cross country campaign tour to North Western States.
He said there is an on-going negotiation between national headquarters of the NUJ with three insurance companies in the country on the proposed new free insurance scheme to the entire working Journalists in the country.
According to him, the sum of N1.5 Million will be given to each benefiting Journalist who either lost his life or had an accident while discharging his or her primary assignment.
Comrade Obamiwagun, who is currently the Acting National President of the Union, declared that his administration will initiate new Widows Incentive Program, for wives of the deceased Journalists who lost their lives in line of duty.
“As we have six geo- political zones of our great union in the country, if elected, I will empower widows with N250,000 each” Rotimi hinted.
He called on Zamfara State NUJ delegates to vote for him in order to enable him re- brand the Union to greater level.
In his remarks, the Zamfara State Council Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad Kanoma promised to give every support to the national body in the next delegates conference to transform the union.
