National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, is to deploy Doctors, Nurses and other medical Corp members to all the major Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps across the country, the Director General of the Corp, Brigadier General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure has disclosed.
General Kazaure, who spoke in Yola yesterday at the Damare IDP’s camp, stated that the move is to solve the present medical challenges facing the camps.
The NYSC Director-General while on his maiden visit to the Adamawa State Directorate of the Corps, admonished other stakeholders not to relent in their efforts at bringing succour to the displaced persons.
General Karauze also announced that henceforth, Youth Corps members will be deployed to all the IDP camps so as to help them in their day to day activities.
He also urged Nigerians to complement government efforts in alleviating the sufferings of the IDPs, noting that the cruel fate that befall them was not their making, but a natural disaster.
While flagging off the distribution of food materials and various drugs by the NYSC, General Kazaure commended his predecessor for making concerted efforts in making the youth Corpers involved in vocational activities, which resulted in the production of 700 bags of locally produced rice, which he donated to be shared to all IDP camps in the state.
Earlier, the state Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Jibrilla announced that the state government is working on a plan for all the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in all the camps in the state to return to their respective homes before the beginning of next year.
Jibrilla represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Amidu Waziri disclosed that the plan is being put in place with other state governments in the sub-region badly devastated by Boko Haram insurgent.
The state co-ordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Sa’ad Bello had earlier told the NYSC Director General that the major challenges facing IDP camps in the state are medical services to the inmates.
