Few hours after a church service in honour of his late wife, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday narrowly escaped death along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
It was gathered that the former President was on his way to the 80th birthday of the Pool Manager, Sir Kesington Adebunkola Adebutu before the incident happened.
Obasanjo, who was earlier in the church located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library for the 10th remembrance service in honour of his late wife, Stella Obasanjo, it was gathered, had planned to travel outside the country after attending the birthday.
Nigeria Pilot Sunday gathered that one of the rear tyres of the Luxus SUV Jeep in which the former President was travelling burst along the road creating tension over the safety of the former President.
Although a report had it that the vehicle tumbled, the former President was said to have alighted safely from the vehicle and joined another one in his convoy.
Although, no one could ascertain whether Obasanjo was injured or not he was said to have headed straight to Adebutu’s 80th birthday church service before jetting out of the country.
The former President, during the Church service said Stella’s memory would remain fresh in his mind and that of her family.
The late former First Lady, died on October 23, 2005 after a failed surgery in a hospital in Spain.
In his brief remarks, the former President, while acknowledging that much had been said of Stella in his book, “My Watch” says, he missed his late wife dearly.
