Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lost his only sister, Madam Adunni Oluniola Eweje-Obasanjo.
Eweje-Obasanjo who reportedly died last Tuesday with hearth related disease was aged 76.
The former President yesterday personally broke the news when he hosted women leaders from the Southwest at his Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the former President was briefed about the demise of her sister when he was away in Germany but ordered her remains to be taken to an undisclosed morgue in Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.
Obasanjo who came back into the country in the early hours of yesterday told the women leaders that he wasn’t expecting her sister to die.
He however said he has decided to go ahead with his schedule with the women leaders.
He said, “This is a mourning time, when I was fixing today, I never knew my sister would be called but I have decided to honour the appointment.”‎
The women leaders, drawn from community, religious and market sections in the five south west states including Lagos were led by the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson.
The delegation later prayed for the repose of the dead and praying to God for the Obasanjo family to have the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also, church members of the Christ Chapel of the Glorious King, where Obasanjo is a member visited to commiserate with the Obasanjo’s.
Led by the Rev. Oyejide and Deacon Durodola, the congregation also prayed for the family on the loss of Obasanjo’s sister.
The late Madam Eweje-Obasanjo, commonly refer to as Mama Eweje died at an Ota private hospital after a brief illness.
One of her daughters who was also sighted at Obasanjo’s house and identified herself simply as Titi said burial arrangements would be announced later
