FORMER President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has written a congratulatory message to the President-Elect of United State of America, Donald Trump. Obasanjo, a former African Union, AU, President, assured the elected 45th President of US of the African continent, particularly Nigeria’s support for his administration. In a three paragraph letter dated November 9, 2016 with the caption, ‘Congratulations!’ which was personally signed by him, Obasanjo said the support would be on equitable and fairer acceptance of the continent and Nigeria by his administration. The letter reads: “I felicitate with you, your family and everybody in your camp and your campaign for winning the Presidential elections to become the 45th President of the United States of America. “Let me assure you that most of us in Africa who believe in equitability in the global affairs, will work with you for a fairer world and more so, those of us in Nigeria. “While congratulating you once again, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.” The conditions embedded in the letter might not be unconnected with reported utterances of the President Elect against blacks and especially Nigeria during the electioneering campaign period. Trump emerged the winner of 2016 Presidential Election in US in what was a shock to the world after defeating a more favoured candidate and former Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton.
